CANE workshop: Preparing Free Editions of Classical Texts

Overview

This workshop will provide an introduction to creating free digital texts. Participants will learn how to edit XML documents conforming to the guidelines of the Text Encoding Initiative, and how to license them to guarantee that others can use them freely.

The instructors will bring previously entered Latin texts of the Lives of Cornelius Nepos that you may choose from. At the end of the workshop, everyone will have completed a valid XML version of one Life, that can be used to create either printed documents or interactive documents on the web. Alternatively, participants are welcome to bring texts they particularly want to work on.
