A CTS reader for Firefox: how to configure Firefox

The reader/browser application uses javascript to do the work of retrieving texts from sites on the internet. As a security measure, web browsers restrict the freedom of javascript programs to download data from other sites. To enable Firefox to use remote data from specific sites, follow these three steps to grant your browser permission to use the javascript. (This is a one-time set up you won't have to repeat.)

  1. enter about:config in the address bar
  2. in the resulting (massively long) list of preferences, scroll down until you find
    signed.applets.codebase_principal_support
and make sure it is set to
    true
(You can double-click on it to toggle between true and false.)
  3. The first time Firefox retrieves a text, it will display a scary dialog box like this scary dialog box asking if you want to allow this javascript program to download remote data: click "Allow" and check the box to "Remember this" to avoid repeating this exercise every time you use the reader.
